Ajayi, in a statement issued on Sunday, urged Nigerians to disregard the reports, stressing that Gowon is alive and in good health.
He said the claims circulating online were unverified and capable of causing unnecessary panic among members of the public, as well as emotional distress to the family and associates of the former military leader.
“The claims making the rounds on social media about the death of General Yakubu Gowon are completely false and misleading,” Ajayi stated.
The aide emphasised that there was no truth whatsoever in the reports, noting that Gowon continues to live an active and purposeful life.
According to him, the former Head of State remains engaged in public life and continues to contribute meaningfully to national conversations, particularly on peace, unity and national development.
He said, “General Gowon is alive, in good health, and remains active. He continues to attend public events and contribute to discussions on peace, unity and the development of Nigeria.”
Ajayi cautioned Nigerians against the spread of unverified information, warning that such rumours could cause avoidable anxiety and confusion across the country.
He appealed to citizens to always verify information from credible and authoritative sources before sharing it, especially on social media platforms where false reports can spread rapidly.
The aide further urged Nigerians to act responsibly in the consumption and dissemination of news, noting that the growing menace of fake news poses a serious threat to public trust and social stability.
