The Lagos State Government has urged residents to sustain efforts at keeping the state clean by avoiding unsanitary practices during the Yuletide season.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the appeal was made in a statement by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who stressed the need for residents to maintain high standards of environmental cleanliness and adhere strictly to proper waste disposal practices throughout the festive period.

Wahab noted that the Yuletide season is usually marked by increased social activities, which often lead to a surge in waste generation across the state.
He, therefore, called on residents to be more environmentally conscious by ensuring that all forms of waste, including food and animal waste, are properly sorted, bagged, and disposed of at designated collection points for evacuation by approved Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators.
The commissioner assured residents that the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is fully prepared to handle increased waste evacuation demands during the celebrations.
He also reiterated the ban on the patronage of cart pushers, warning that engaging their services undermines the state’s waste management framework and contributes to environmental degradation.

Wahab reminded residents of LAWMA’s customer care lines, which provide channels for reporting illegal dumping, waste management failures, and other sanitation-related infractions.
He urged residents to promptly report environmental violations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting a healthy population and a cleaner, flood-free Lagos.
In addition, the commissioner advised residents to avoid storing petrol and other flammable materials in homes, offices, shops, and markets, especially during the dry season, to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks.
Wahab concluded by wishing Lagos residents an environmentally responsible Christmas and a prosperous New Year, emphasising that good sanitation and hygiene practices remain critical to public health and safety.
