Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has declared Monday a statewide day of fasting and prayer aimed at seeking divine intervention for lasting peace in the state and across Nigeria.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor made the announcement in a televised broadcast on Saturday, coming at a time when northern states are experiencing renewed attacks on schools, worship centres, and rural communities.

Recent incidents include the closure of schools in parts of Kwara State after a church attack left worshippers dead and some abducted, the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls and the killing of a vice-principal in Kebbi, and the mass abduction of over 300 children and teachers in Niger State.

Addressing residents, Zulum said he spoke not only as governor but as a concerned citizen, stressing that the last 15 years of insurgency had tested the state’s resilience, displaced communities and disrupted livelihoods.
He praised the strength of Borno people and their unwavering support to security agencies, adding that unity and collective sacrifice helped the state overcome some of its darkest periods.
The governor also highlighted improvements in agriculture, noting that the relative calm in many areas has resulted in a promising farming season and better harvests for local farmers.
While acknowledging that isolated attacks still occur, Zulum urged citizens to remain steadfast, emphasising that prayers remain essential to strengthening ongoing security efforts.

He declared Monday, November 24, 2025, as a statewide day of fasting and prayer, calling on residents of all faiths to join in seeking peace and protection for Borno and Nigeria.
Zulum assured that his administration will continue supporting security forces, strengthening community vigilance and pursuing dialogue where helpful—without compromising public safety.
He added that this call mirrors a similar statewide prayer and fasting exercise he personally led in May 2025 in Rann, one of the communities hardest hit by insurgency.
