A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State, after an 18-year-old apprentice allegedly killed his master during a heated altercation.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the suspect, identified as Chiemerie and said to be from Ebonyi State, reportedly attacked his employer, identified simply as Iyke, with a mortar pestle after being scolded over alleged pilfering of money and drug use.

Eyewitnesses said the victim was a trader at the popular Ogbo-Ogwu Bridgehead Medicine Market in Onitsha. According to a resident, the suspect picked up a pestle from the kitchen during the argument and struck his master on the head.
The victim was rushed to hospital but later died from the injuries sustained. The incident reportedly sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood and the bustling market community.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect has been arrested and the pestle recovered as evidence.
“Yes, the incident happened on Sunday. The suspect is already in custody, and the pestle he used has been recovered,” Ikenga said, adding that the dispute escalated after the employer reprimanded the apprentice over alleged misconduct.
The case is currently under investigation.
The incident comes amid similar reports in recent years, including a 2023 case in Ondo State where an apprentice was arrested for allegedly killing his master and dumping the body in a well.
