Abubakar Maigandi, President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, said the price change was due to supply disruptions caused by the recent standoff between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Dangote Refinery.
“It is due to PENGASSAN’s strike disruption. However, members still sell at N885 and N895 per litre,” Maigandi stated.
Last week, PENGASSAN embarked on a two-day nationwide strike to protest the mass dismissal of Nigerian workers by the Dangote Refinery. The industrial action disrupted gas and fuel distribution across the country before the federal government’s intervention led to its suspension.
Following negotiations, the Dangote Group agreed to redeploy the affected workers, prompting PENGASSAN to call off the strike.
Meanwhile, the union has dissolved the branch executives of the Nigeria Gas Infrastructure Company Limited and the NNPC Gas Marketing Limited.
According to a report, PENGASSAN took the action after accusing the branch leaders of failing to fully enforce a gas supply shutdown to the Dangote Refinery during the strike.
The union also alleged that the executives collaborated with management and accepted financial inducements to frustrate the industrial action, claims that the affected members have strongly denied.
