EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Sunday, ECOWAS said the mission would be deployed between October 19 and 29 in line with its supplementary protocol on democracy and good governance.
As head of mission, Osinbajo is expected to lead a team of distinguished West Africans to engage electoral stakeholders, monitor the process, and ensure that the election is peaceful, transparent, and credible.
The regional body added that the mission would work in collaboration with other international and domestic observer groups to assess the conduct of the polls and build public confidence in the democratic process.
According to ECOWAS, the deployment of the observation team reflects its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, stability, and credible elections across West Africa.
The October 25 presidential election is seen as a crucial test for Côte d’Ivoire’s democracy, as President Alassane Ouattara, aged 83, seeks a controversial fourth term in office. His decision to contest again has sparked political tension and renewed debates over constitutional term limits and democratic transition in the country.

ECOWAS expressed optimism that with collective engagement and international oversight, the electoral process would strengthen democratic governance and maintain regional stability.
