Represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, Sanwo-Olu reminded the about 1,600 pilgrims that Hajj is a deeply spiritual obligation not a sightseeing trip and should be approached with seriousness and devotion.
He encouraged them to take advantage of sacred moments during the pilgrimage, especially at Arafah, to pray for the country and its leaders.
“Remember Lagos and Nigeria in your prayers. Ask for peace in our communities, security across the nation, and economic growth for our people,” he said, also calling for prayers for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and those in leadership.

The governor also stressed the importance of discipline, urging pilgrims to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid any form of political discussions or protests while in Saudi Arabia. According to him, their focus should remain on worship and supporting one another.
Speaking at the event, Layode, who also serves as Amir-ul-Hajj, revealed that the state government has made improved arrangements to ensure a smooth experience for the pilgrims. These include full payment for the sacrificial ram, organised visits to key religious sites in Makkah and Madinah, and support for essential pilgrimage items.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters and Chairman of the 2026 Hajj ad-hoc committee, Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe, appreciated the state government for its support.
He assured that different committees have been set up to handle the welfare, safety, and comfort of the pilgrims, while also urging them to represent Lagos positively throughout their stay in the Holy Land.
