EKO HOT BLOG reports that Earlier, the House had adjourned plenary until the following Tuesday due to concerns over contractors’ protests and the delayed release of funds from the 2024/2025 national budget. However, after further consultations and progress in resolving these issues, the leadership decided it was necessary to resume earlier than planned.
The decision was communicated to lawmakers in an internal memorandum from the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, on Tuesday. The memorandum stated that the early resumption would provide an opportunity for the leadership to update members on the progress made in resolving the concerns, along with other national matters.
“The early resumption will allow the Leadership of the House to brief Members on the progress recorded in resolving these issues and other related matters of national importance,” the memo read.
Rotimi confirmed that the focus of Wednesday’s plenary would be to rescind the earlier adjournment resolution, allowing legislative business to continue.
He further explained that the decision to reconvene was influenced by the positive outcomes from ongoing discussions between the Executive and Legislative arms of government. These discussions have particularly addressed issues surrounding the release of budgeted funds and contractors’ grievances.
“This decision follows positive developments arising from engagements and interventions across various levels of government concerning issues that informed the earlier adjournment, particularly matters relating to contractors’ agitations and the non-release of funds under the 2024/2025 budget,” Rotimi stated.
The House leadership has instructed all Honourable Members to make the necessary arrangements to attend the plenary session on Wednesday.
The session is expected to address key fiscal implementation matters, review pending motions, and set the tone for renewed legislative activity after a week of intense national discussions about budget execution and project funding.
