Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has strongly denied claims linking him to the financing of terrorism, calling the reports “baseless, malicious, and reckless.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that the allegation, which has circulated widely in the media, suggested Emefiele was involved in supporting terrorism in Nigeria, a claim the ex-banker has rejected outright.

In a statement released on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Emefiele stressed: “I categorically and unequivocally reject these claims. They are entirely fabricated and clearly intended to tarnish my reputation, mislead the public, and create confusion for reasons known only to the originators of these reports.”
He went on to assert that the fight against terrorism is a matter of national importance and should not be undermined by “irresponsible and sensationalist reporting.”

Emefiele added that at no point in his public service or private life has he been involved in financing terrorism, nor has he ever been questioned, investigated, or linked to any individual claiming responsibility for such acts.
“I have never interacted with the individual who gave that interview, and the allegation is a total falsehood,” he said.
“I urge Nigerians to disregard these reports entirely, and I call on the media to verify facts before publishing, rather than spreading misleading and damaging claims.”
