Eko Hot Blog reports that the event, organised in collaboration with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, provided a platform for beneficiaries to recount how EKOSHA, through the Ilera Eko initiative, has improved access to quality healthcare, reduced out-of-pocket medical expenses, and brought relief to vulnerable households within the division.
Welcoming participants, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman, Conference 57 League of Chairmen, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, commended the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for its vision of making health insurance accessible to all Lagosians.
He noted that EKOSHA plays a critical role in subsidising healthcare coverage for indigent residents, while reaffirming his administration’s sustained partnership with LASHMA.
He also highlighted the council’s previous sponsorship of 1,000 residents under the scheme as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in the area.
During the interactive session, beneficiaries shared compelling testimonies on the life-changing impact of the scheme.
A resident from a rural community in Ibeju-Lekki described the health insurance coverage as a “lifesaver,” explaining that it enabled timely treatment for a chronic illness without financial hardship.
A mother also expressed appreciation for free consultations, medications, and hospital admissions, noting that the scheme eliminated delays in seeking care caused by fear of high medical costs.
Officials from LASHMA emphasised that town hall engagements such as this help to deepen community trust, encourage enrolment, and provide feedback that improves service delivery across the state.
The meeting also featured the presence of traditional rulers and community leaders, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Lukman Arowolo, the Gbadewolu of Araromi Kingdom, alongside other dignitaries, further underscoring the collective commitment to expanding access to affordable healthcare in Lagos State.
Residents were encouraged to make use of LASHMA’s 24-hour toll-free service lines for enquiries and enrolment support as the state continues to drive universal health coverage through the Ilera Eko programme.
