Speaking through the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Kingsley Ude, Tinubu said any sacrifice required to preserve Nigeria’s unity and security would be worthwhile.
He stressed that excellence and national unity, rather than tribal considerations, guided his appointments into key security positions, including the former Chief of Naval Staff, Aneke, and the current Chief of Air Staff, Ogala.
Describing Ihejirika as one of Nigeria’s finest generals who served during a critical period in the nation’s history, the President reiterated his commitment to keeping the country united and secure.

In a keynote address titled “The Role of Leadership in Strengthening National Security and Governance,” former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, described leadership as the foremost ingredient for national development.
He emphasised that visionary, inclusive and integrity-driven leadership is essential in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly in a globalised world facing complex internal and external threats.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State said he deliberately aligned the celebration with the commissioning of two landmark projects, the Omenuko Bridge and the 30km Abam–Arochukwu Road to highlight the importance of good governance. He commended Ihejirika for his firm convictions and service to the nation.
In his remarks, Ihejirika described the occasion as emotional and expressed gratitude for the presence of dignitaries from across the country. Reflecting on his years of service, he said his experiences across different regions of Nigeria reinforced his belief in national unity, adding that he never felt marginalised while serving in various capacities.
