The Ambassador of Iran to Nigeria, Gholamreza Raja, has criticized the United Nations Security Council’s recent resolution condemning Iran’s activities in the Gulf, calling the measure politically biased and one-sided.
In an interview with Punch Online on Monday, Eko Hot Blog reports that Raja argued that the resolution failed to consider the full context of the crisis, overlooking what Iran describes as acts of aggression against it.

He said the Security Council’s call for Tehran to halt hostilities and condemnation of alleged attacks on regional infrastructure ignored the underlying causes of the conflict.

“The UN Security Council resolution condemning Iran’s defensive measures does not reflect the realities on the ground and is politically motivated,” Raja said. He emphasized that the actions taken by Iran were in line with its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
Raja added that responsibility for rising tensions in the region lies with parties whose provocative actions have fueled instability. He maintained that Iran remains committed to peaceful conflict resolution, regional stability, and international law, while also asserting its right to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The UN Security Council adopted the resolution on Wednesday, with 13 countries voting in favor and Russia and China abstaining. The measure, co-sponsored by Bahrain and 135 member states, condemned Iran for alleged attacks on Gulf nations and Jordan, calling the strikes a violation of international law and a threat to regional peace.

The Council also expressed support for the territorial integrity of Gulf Cooperation Council member states and Jordan and criticized damage to civilian infrastructure, including ports and energy facilities.
Responding to Qatar’s eighth formal complaint to the UN regarding missile and drone attacks on its territory, Raja said Iran’s actions targeted only military sites associated with the United States. He stressed that Iran has no intention of attacking neighboring countries and values good relations with regional states, including Qatar.
Raja also noted that foreign military bases in the region, used to conduct operations against Iran, are a major factor contributing to tensions. He reiterated that dialogue, respect, and adherence to international law remain essential to achieving peace and stability in the Gulf.
