- Governor Abdullahi Sule has declared that the Nasarawa West senatorial zone (Keffi axis) should produce the next governor in 2027 to ensure fairness among the state’s three zones.
- The Nasarawa APC has officially adopted the direct primary mode for all elective positions, a move the Governor says aligns with President Tinubu’s preference for grassroots participation.
- Governor Sule cautioned aspirants that the process will be so transparent that anyone leaving the party after a loss will simply be seen as someone who “does not know how to lose.”
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has set the stage for the 2027 general elections by advocating for the Nasarawa West senatorial zone to produce his successor.
Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking after a marathon stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Governor argued that since Nasarawa South held power for 12 years and his own Nasarawa North is currently in office, the principle of brotherhood dictates that the Keffi axis, which has not held the seat in over two decades, should take the lead.

The meeting, which included the deputy governor, National Assembly members, and various federal appointees, also reached a consensus on the mode of primary elections.
The party will utilize direct primaries, allowing every registered member a direct vote in selecting candidates.
Governor Sule emphasized that this transparent approach is designed to keep the APC united and eliminate any legitimate grounds for post-primary grievances or defections.
Addressing the caliber of those vying for the seat, the Governor noted that the state boasts strong aspirants who have held significant national positions.
He urged them to maintain respect for one another and the party’s constitution throughout the exercise.

He assured that the process would strictly adhere to the Electoral Act, providing a level playing field for all “heavyweight” contenders.
By clearly stating his preference for Nasarawa West, Governor Sule aims to prevent a repeat of the “successor crises” seen in other states.
He concluded by thanking stakeholders for their cooperation, expressing confidence that a transparent democratic process will ensure the APC remains the dominant force in Nasarawa State come 2027.
