The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cleared a major hurdle in its journey toward the 2027 elections by officially recognizing its leadership teams across Nigeria.
During the National Convention held in Abuja on Monday, March 30, 2026, delegates voted unanimously to validate the results of congresses held at the ward, local government, and state levels.

This move is designed to end leadership disputes and create a unified front against the ruling party.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, moved the motion that brought the long-awaited legality to these party positions.
She told the thousands of gathered members that the decision was about more than just paperwork, it was about proving that the PDP follows its own rules and respects the voices of its members.
“Today’s decision is a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to internal democracy,” she said, urging members to stop fighting and start rebuilding.
While the convention successfully validated leaders in 19 states and the FCT, it also acknowledged that some areas still need work.
To ensure every member feels represented, the party approved repeat elections for 16 states where disputes were most heated, such as Lagos, Kano, and Enugu.

By doing this, the PDP hopes to go into the next election cycle as a “credible alternative” for Nigerians who are looking for a change.
The atmosphere at the convention was one of cautious optimism. By clearing up who is officially in charge at the local levels, the PDP has removed a major distraction, allowing the party to focus on its national strategy.
As Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan noted in her closing remarks, the task of rebuilding the party’s image is “bigger than any single person,” and requires total cooperation from all blocs.
