EKO HOT BLOG reports that the defections were conveyed through separate letters read on the floor by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu. The shifts cut across major political parties, reflecting ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the announcements, the Peoples Democratic Party lost five members, while one lawmaker moved from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress. The All Progressives Congress also lost two members.
Speaking on the development, Kalu said the movement of lawmakers across party lines reflects the strength of Nigeria’s democratic system and dispels concerns about a one party state.
“This is to show the country that no party is stifled. People are leaving the majority party to the minority parties and the minority parties for the majority party. This is the beauty of democracy,” he said.
Among those who defected, Thaddeus Attah, representing Eti Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State, moved from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress, citing the party’s prolonged leadership crisis as the reason for his decision.
Other defections include Abubakar Abdul from Niger State, who left the PDP for the APC, Yakubu Noma from Kebbi State, who moved from the PDP to the ADC, and Ibrahim Mohammed, also from Kebbi, who joined the APC from the PDP.

In Osun State, Mudashiru Alani and Adetunji Olusoji defected from the PDP to the Accord Party, while David Fuoh from Taraba State moved from the APC to the PDP. Bashir Zubair from Kaduna State also left the APC for the ADC.
Despite the changes, the APC retains its numerical advantage in the House.
Meanwhile, the House adjourned plenary to Wednesday in honour of Kano lawmaker, Hassan Danjuma, who died on April 10, 2026, at the age of 66.
