President Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election after recording a sweeping victory in the party’s nationwide direct primary election conducted on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the outcome of the exercise was officially announced on Sunday following the conclusion of voting across the country’s 8,809 wards spread through all 774 local government areas.

Tinubu secured the party’s ticket after defeating businessman and APC member Stanley Osifo, who was the only other contestant in the race.
The results were presented at the collation centre located at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja by the chairman of the APC Presidential Primaries Election Committee, Pius Anyim.

Announcing the figures, Anyim stated that the party had 12,643,306 registered members nationwide. Out of that number, 11,069,756 members were accredited to vote, while 11,015,665 eventually cast their ballots.
According to the final tally, Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes, while Osifo polled 16,503 votes.
Based on the results, the committee declared Tinubu winner of the primary election and confirmed him as the APC presidential candidate for the 2027 poll after meeting the requirements set out in the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Following the declaration, Tinubu received the APC flag and certificate of return from the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
Speaking after accepting the nomination, the President expressed appreciation to party members for their support and turnout during the exercise.
Among those present at the collation centre were Vice President Kashim Shettima and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
