Tinubu noted that the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI), which has been restructured under the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), has helped strengthen fertiliser procurement and local production, while NADF has played a key role in ensuring that the products reach farmers at the grassroots.
“Securing inputs and keeping blending plants active is only the first step. The real test is last-mile access — getting fertiliser to the farmers who need it, when they need it,” the President said.
According to the statement, NADF is currently distributing 515,720 bags of locally produced fertiliser to 128,930 smallholder farmers in 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity during the current planting season.
The intervention, coordinated by the Executive Secretary of NADF, Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, is one of the agency’s flagship programmes designed to increase yields, support smallholder farmers and enhance food security nationwide.

Tinubu described the initiative as evidence of his administration’s resolve to make food security a cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“When we came into office, we promised Nigerians that food security would be a major pillar of our Renewed Hope Agenda. We pledged to support our farmers, strengthen local production, reduce dependence on imports and build an agricultural system resilient enough to withstand external shocks. That promise is being kept,” he stated.
Beyond fertiliser distribution, the President also commended NADF’s efforts to promote modern farming practices through digital extension services, harmonised fertiliser application guidelines and targeted interventions for crops such as rice, maize, cassava and soybean.
Under the leadership of Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, the agency has continued to deepen partnerships and implement programmes aimed at improving farmers’ access to agricultural inputs, strengthening support systems and driving sustainable agricultural development.
Tinubu noted that government interventions across the fertiliser value chain have helped sustain local production, improve affordability and cushion the impact of rising global input costs.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector, the President pledged continued support for initiatives that improve productivity, strengthen value chains and enhance livelihoods in rural communities.
“Our administration will not relent in its efforts to strengthen Nigerian agriculture and protect food security for every Nigerian. This is the meaning of promise made, promise kept. We will continue to take practical steps that improve productivity, support our farmers and secure our nation’s food future,” he said.
