The calculated assault occurred during the early hours of Monday, June 29, 2026, throwing the local border region into deep panic and prompting immediate defensive coordination across nearby security outposts.
The targeted incursion deliberately capitalized on the local area’s calendar, timing the raid to coincide exactly with the weekly Lassa market day.
The intense civilian influx and commercial traffic associated with the market provided the armed elements with a tactical cover, allowing them to advance seamlessly into the community without raising immediate alarms.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the assailants bypasses standard checkpoints, rode directly into the academic facility, opened fire on staff members who attempted to sound an alarm, and forcibly marched out the students who were trapped inside active classroom blocks.
Confirming the incident on Monday morning, the Special Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor on Media and Strategy, Mr. Solomon Kwamagar, who is an indigene of the affected community, expressed deep sorrow over the calculated violence meted out against the local populace.
Kwamagar noted that the Lassa community is predominantly inhabited by the Margi ethnic group, a population that naturally spans across both Adamawa and Borno states due to historical border delineations.

He stated that he is maintaining open lines of communication with local leaders and emergency services on the ground to establish a precise verification log of all missing children and faculty members.
The cross-border nature of the attack has introduced immediate bureaucratic bottlenecks to the initial response phase.
When contact was attempted with the official spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, to determine the deployment status of joint search teams, his official communication lines remained entirely unreachable.
Local vigilante networks and hunters from the neighboring Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa have reportedly mobilized into the surrounding forest tracks to locate the trail of the motorcycles, while regional authorities await formal operational reinforcement from the military theatre command.
