Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has strengthened the state’s emergency response system by inducting 150 newly recruited firefighters into the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and commissioning the Oworonshoki Fire Station, Eko Hot Blog reports.
According to the state government, the new facility brings to 11 the number of public fire stations established under the Sanwo-Olu administration.

The newly recruited firefighters completed a six-month intensive training programme at the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Technical Training Centre in Ikeja, where they earned the Basic Firefighting Competency Certificate (BFCC), qualifying them for operational duties.
Speaking during the induction ceremony, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, congratulated the officers on completing their training and urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and teamwork.
She also encouraged them to embrace continuous learning as they begin field operations.
“Firefighting is a highly demanding profession that requires courage, professionalism, teamwork and a constant commitment to improving operational skills in order to effectively protect lives, the environment and property across Lagos State,” she said.
Adeseye explained that the latest recruitment is the third phase of employment under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
According to her, the government recruited 100 firefighters in December 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by 435 personnel in May 2022.
With the induction of the latest batch, she said the administration has recruited a total of 685 firefighters, significantly improving the agency’s operational capacity.
She added that, alongside the 11 public fire stations, another station is being operated through a Public-Private Partnership with the Startimes Estate Community Development Association.
Adeseye commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his continued investment in emergency management through the recruitment of personnel, expansion of fire stations and provision of modern firefighting equipment.
She assured residents that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service would continue to provide prompt and efficient emergency response services, adding that improving safety and security remains a key part of the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda.
