The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, has charged junior officers in the state Ministry of Justice to uphold integrity, professionalism and teamwork, saying effective justice delivery depends on the contribution of every member of staff.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Pedro gave the charge on Tuesday in Ikeja while declaring open a 2-day Junior Officers’ Workshop organised by the ministry with the theme, “From Potential to Performance: Empowering Junior Officers for Excellence in Service Delivery.”

He said the workshop was aimed at strengthening the capacity of non-lawyer staff whose roles were essential to the effective operation of the Ministry of Justice.
Pedro noted that the ministry was not made up of lawyers alone, stressing that legal officers depended on staff in administration, finance, accounts, human resources, information technology, records, library services, procurement, registry, research and public relations.
“Every officer has a role to play as the quality of your work contributes directly or indirectly to the effectiveness of the ministry,” he said.
The Attorney-General urged the participants to maintain high ethical standards, noting that public servants occupy positions of trust and must handle government resources and official information with honesty, transparency and accountability.
He also stressed the importance of teamwork, warning that delays or inefficiency in one unit could affect an entire department and ultimately undermine service delivery to members of the public.
Pedro said the workshop would address competence and productivity, office etiquette, communication, emotional intelligence, professionalism, ethics and integrity.
He added that participants would also receive guidance on health and wellbeing as well as career development within the Lagos State Public Service.
The Attorney-General urged the officers to participate actively and apply the knowledge gained to their respective departments.
“The objective is not merely to acquire knowledge, but to see that the knowledge reflects in improved performance and better service delivery,” he said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary and Solicitor-General of the ministry, Hameed Oyenuga, described the junior officers as the future workforce of the Ministry of Justice.
Oyenuga urged them to translate their potential into measurable performance by demonstrating responsibility, professionalism and dedication to their duties.
“Potential is only the beginning. It must be translated to performance,” he said.
He further advised the officers to respect deadlines, maintain confidentiality and uphold integrity in their dealings with colleagues and members of the public.
Oyenuga also encouraged the participants to take responsibility for their professional development by asking questions, seeking mentors and learning from experienced colleagues.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Citizens’ Mediation Bureau, Aderinsola Olarewaju, urged the officers to understand the importance of their individual responsibilities to the overall success of the ministry.
She likened the role of support staff to links in a chain, noting that a weakness in one part could affect the effectiveness of the entire system.
Olarewaju reminded the participants that their conduct reflected on the Ministry of Justice and urged them to maintain professionalism in their interactions with colleagues and members of the public.
The 2-day workshop featured sessions on professionalism, ethics and integrity, health and wellness, career development in the Lagos State Civil Service, as well as question-and-answer, reflection, feedback and interactive sessions.
