The Lagos State Government has vowed to intensify its crackdown on individuals accused of harassing motorists and stopping luxury vehicles along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the state Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, described the activity as criminal, saying the government would not tolerate extortion, harassment or any conduct capable of compromising public safety on the major highway.

Hamzat, who spoke during a broadcast on Nigeria Info FM, said security agencies had already commenced operations to remove offenders from the Lekki-Epe corridor and would sustain the enforcement.
“That is criminal, and therefore, we will not allow it. So, we will take a lot of them off the street,” Hamzat said.
The deputy governor disclosed that several suspects had already been arrested, with some facing prosecution before the Magistrate Court.
He said the state’s extensive network of surveillance cameras along the route had also helped security agencies identify individuals involved in the alleged harassment.
“A lot of people have been arrested, really. A lot of cameras are also on that road and people have been seen… some people are in the Magistrate Court today,” he said.
Hamzat added that multiple arrests were carried out over the weekend as the government intensified efforts to restore order and ensure the safety of motorists using the busy Lekki-Epe corridor.
The state government’s latest position comes amid concerns over the activities of individuals who allegedly target high-end vehicles, stop motorists and demand money under various pretexts.
The deputy governor assured residents that enforcement would continue, stressing that the administration was determined to prevent the highway from becoming a hotspot for harassment and extortion.
