The atmosphere tensed; emotions high; horns locked! The past few months have been laden with anticipation and anxiety as two powerful men threw their hats in the ring in a contest for the exalted office of the president of Eko Club in Houston, Texas.

Every handshake was a mini-campaign; every conversation was a solicitation for support; every speech was a promise made; every smile carried the weight of persuasion.

Camps were formed, and tents were pitched. Loyalties were gained and lost.

The race for this special office was between two giants: Honorable Kunle Alaka, a certified public auditor with the United States of America, former secretary to the Board of Directors, and Kunle Omiyale, an architect and former chairman of the Board of Directors.

With each of them boasting over two decades of the organization’s membership, they both know the ropes and stakes.

Thus, this election was one of the most competitive in the 28-year history of the club. While Omiyale’s presidential agenda foregrounded reforms and inclusion, Alaka promised transparency, brotherhood, accountability, and unity among members.

The manifesto night, organized by the electoral commission, offered the perfect stage for each candidate to enter the spotlight and prove his worth.

They answered the burning questions of members, which was an opportunity for them to either solidify their spots or get evicted from the places they occupied in the hearts of the voters.

Dr. Olumide Agbesanwa, the chairman of the electoral commission, began his speech by urging the contestants to uphold the organization’s core values.

He emphasized that the spirit of brotherhood has been the guiding principle sustaining the organization throughout its 28 years.

He concluded that this spirit should be reflected in their approach during the debate, which is typically held one week before election day.

The power was once again placed in the hands of the members to decide the fate of the organization’s present and future with their votes.

Members were urged to put on their thinking caps and vote for the candidate they could trust with the wheels of the organization.

The election day was marked by last-ditch efforts, including politicking and canvassing for votes, as candidates sought to convince members that they were the ideal choice for the position.

History was made at the clubhouse on Leawood on Saturday, March 8, 2025, a day dubbed “the day of reckoning” by one of the candidates.

The voting exercise was without a hitch, demonstrating once again the organization’s firm grip on its democratic roots, giving Hon. Kunle Alaka an easy ride to the office as the newly elected President of Eko Club in Houston, Texas.

The new president kicked off his acceptance speech by giving thanks to God for the opportunity to serve as the president of the organization.

He gave a nod of salutation to the electoral committee for running a smooth election. He praised his fellow contender, Hon. Kunle Omiyale, for his dedication to the club over the past 23 years, emphasizing their strong brotherly bond.

“The competition is now over, and it is time to unite,” he said, highlighting the importance of collaboration in reaching new heights.
