Asisat Oshoala Makes 2023 Women’s Ballon D’Or Shortlist
Eko Hot Blog reports that Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or.
Asisat Oshoala, 28, is making the Women’s Ballon d’Or shortlist for the second time in a row after being nominated for the 2022 edition.
She is proving herself to be the “agba baller” she is popularly addressed as, emerging as the only African player on the shortlist.
Oshoala is a two-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year and has won the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona on four occasions. She is also a member of the Nigeria women’s national team, the Super Falcons, and has helped them win the African Women’s Cup of Nations in 2014 and 2018.

Oshoala’s nomination follows Barcelona’s triumph in the 2022/23 UEFA Women’s Champions League. She helped Barcelona to win their second title by defeating VfL Wolfsburg 3–2 in the final.

The winner of the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or will be announced at a ceremony in Paris on October 30.

Asisat Oshoala was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1994. She began her football career at the age of 10 and quickly rose through the ranks of the Nigerian women’s national team. She made her senior international debut in 2010 at the age of 16.

Oshoala has won numerous individual and team awards throughout her career. She was named the African Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2015 and 2016 and was also named the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2015. She has also won the UEFA Women’s Champions League four times with Barcelona.
Oshoala is a striker and is known for her speed, dribbling skills, and finishing ability. She is considered one of the best female footballers in the world.
