Atiku Team Condemns BBC Over Comment On Tinubu’s Certificate ‘Forgery’

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Phrank Shaibu, the Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, criticized the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for its recent ‘fact-check’ on President Bola Tinubu’s Chicago State University certificate. In a statement released in Abuja, Shaibu accused the BBC of participating in a “hatchet job” aimed at favoring Tinubu.

Shaibu contended that the BBC’s report aligns with his earlier statement about the Tinubu administration’s intent to launch a propaganda campaign. He expressed disappointment in the BBC’s apparent bias towards the current government and highlighted the BBC’s access to interview Tinubu in the last year.

He criticized the BBC’s ‘fact-check’ report, stating that it failed to address critical questions about Tinubu’s educational credentials. The report did not adequately investigate when Tinubu obtained his certificate from CSU and whether it was the same one submitted to INEC.

Shaibu also referenced Atiku Abubakar’s court case and Africa Check’s initial denial of claims regarding Tinubu’s attendance at Government College, Lagos. He questioned who would fact-check the fact-checkers and suggested that the BBC could have conducted more thorough investigative journalism.
