His victory comes amid a wave of new political realignments as opposition movements look to capitalize on public discontent surrounding economic hardship, unemployment, and governance challenges across Nigeria.
Following his emergence, Abbas’ media office moved swiftly to separate his political path from his former boss, Atiku Abubakar, who is currently seeking the presidency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Okpani Dickson, emphasized that Abbas is stepping into the presidential race entirely on his own merits.
Dickson noted that the administrative chapter between both men closed over two years ago following a political divergence.
He stressed that the candidacy is not a proxy movement or a strategic alliance with past principals, but a direct response to youth demands for uncompromised leadership.
Addressing party delegates after his victory, Abbas described the milestone as the beginning of a fresh political movement focused on national renewal, economic transformation, and youth inclusion.

He called on all Nigerians to unite across ethnic, regional, and religious lines to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Earlier at the event, the National Chairman of the ADP, Yabagi Yusuf Sani, praised the delegates for their loyalty.
Sani stated that the convention marks a major step in presenting the ADP as a credible alternative, emphasizing that Nigeria needs leaders who treat public office as a trust rather than a privilege for self-enrichment.
