Following a previous postponement on November 29, 2024, when Omotubora’s illness was cited as the reason, the court rescheduled the hearing to January 30 for the adoption of final written addresses.
However, at the resumed session on Thursday, State Counsel M.F. Salau informed the court that the defendant had not yet served his written address.
Salau acknowledged the delay and expressed uncertainty regarding the reason for the defence counsel’s failure to serve the address. Consequently, she requested the court to adjourn the case once again.
In response to Salau’s plea, Justice Sherifat Sonaike instructed the prosecution to proceed with filing their written address, ensuring that the legal proceedings continue in spite of the defendant’s counsel’s absence.
“This matter was adjourned on November 29, 2024.
“That is two months ago and the defence counsel is yet to file his written address,” the judge said.
The court, after listening to the prosecution, however, said that there was no letter or information from Omotubora to clarify his absence, or why his final written address had yet to be filed.
