EKO HOT BLOG reports that the directive was issued on Sunday by the Public Relations Officer of the State Ministry of Education, Jalaludeen Usman, and applies to all learning institutions. This includes primary, secondary and tertiary schools, as well as Federal Government-owned and privately run institutions.
Usman explained that the decision was reached after extensive consultations and a thorough review of the growing security risks affecting students, teachers and school communities. He stated that although the decision was difficult, safeguarding lives remains the government’s top priority.
He said the government understands the inconvenience the shutdown may cause parents, guardians and school managers, but stressed that every child in Bauchi deserves to learn in an environment free of fear and instability. Protecting schoolchildren, he added, remains the state’s highest moral duty.
The government appealed for calm and cooperation from parents, guardians, proprietors and stakeholders during this period of precautionary measures. Usman noted that engagements with security agencies were ongoing to stabilise the environment and restore safety.
He assured residents that academic activities would resume once experts confirm it is safe for schools to reopen. The government also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to relevant authorities.
It further urged citizens to adopt the “see something, say something” approach, noting that timely information is essential to protecting communities as security agencies work to contain emerging threats.
