Bottling Company, Banks Affected as Fire Engulfs Seven-Storey Building in Lagos

A seven-storey commercial building in the Iddo area of Lagos Island was engulfed by fire on Thursday.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that, according to a statement from the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, the fire broke out around 10 a.m. and originated from the archival room of the building, which houses commercial banks, a bottling company, and other businesses.

Adeseye revealed that the fire started on the first floor of the AG Leventis-owned Iddo House and was reported at 10:22 a.m.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, with teams from the Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations, swiftly contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading beyond the archival room, which spans approximately 108 square meters.
She attributed the fire to rising room temperatures, leading to self-ignition within the confined space. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, and the firefighting operation was successfully concluded.

Recall a fire incident on January 3, where a one-storey building in Lekki was gutted by flames.
According to an incident report signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the fire started around 1 p.m., causing significant property damage, though the exact value of losses remained unconfirmed.
