Witnesses at the scene confirmed that one person died instantly from the impact.
Another victim, whose identity remains unknown, was seen being carried by responders and rushed to a nearby hospital, with onlookers expressing hope for their survival.
Several others are believed to have sustained varying degrees of injuries as the shredded remains of the Maruwa tell a grim story of the high-velocity impact.
The tragedy has sparked outrage among residents, especially as it was discovered that the owner of the truck and the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

A large crowd of onlookers gathered at the site, expressing frustration over the recurring nature of such accidents.
“This is another one in this year alone,” a witness lamented, pointing to the frequent fatalities involving trucks on this specific stretch of road.
Personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and local security teams have arrived at the scene to manage the situation and clear the wreckage.
This latest accident adds to a worrisome tally of truck-related incidents in Epe in 2026, many of which have been attributed to overspeeding and the poor mechanical state of trailers plying the Atlantic Hall axis.
Authorities are currently working to maintain order as the search for the fleeing driver begins.
