- The Government of Canada has announced a mandatory increase in application fees for permanent residence (PR) and citizenship, effective April 30, 2026.
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) stated the adjustments are necessary to offset rising program costs, manage growing demand, and keep pace with inflation.
- While most residency fees change in late April, the Right of Citizenship Fee will increase slightly earlier, on March 31, 2026.
Nigerians planning to relocate to Canada will face higher costs starting next month as the Canadian government implements its biennial fee adjustment.
Eko Hot Blog reports that according to an official notice from the IRCC, the price of obtaining the Right of Permanent Residence and various visa classes will see a moderate increase to ensure the immigration system remains reliable and efficient.

The fee for the Right of Permanent Residence will rise by $25, moving from $575 to $600. Those applying through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) will see a $40 increase, bringing the new total to $990.
The Business Class category faces the steepest hike of $85, with the fee jumping to $1,895. Other categories, including the Family Class, Protected Persons, and Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds, will all see a uniform $25 increase.
For those already in Canada and progressing toward full status, the Right of Citizenship Fee is increasing from $119.75 to $123.
This specific change takes effect immediately on March 31, 2026.

IRCC explained that under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, these fees are automatically adjusted every two years to ensure the Canadian taxpayer does not bear the full brunt of processing international applications.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit their documents before the April 30 deadline to take advantage of the current pricing.
Applications received on or after that date will be strictly subject to the new fee structure.
