EKO HOT BLOG reports that Abbas, 39, was picked up from his home on February 7, 2025, by heavily armed DSS officials, and has not been seen or heard from since.
According to family accounts, Abbas had earlier engaged the DSS office in Ajaokuta to inquire about the unexplained arrests of young men in the area. Two days later, DSS operatives stormed his residence in four Toyota Hilux trucks and arrested him. He was asked about a phone number and a locally made hunting gun he owned, then taken away without formal charges.
Michael Adeiza, a member of the EYC, told FIJ that Abbas’ arrest mirrors other mysterious disappearances of young men in Ajaokuta. He accused the DSS of locking their divisional office for two weeks after the incident and noted that the divisional head, Jonathan Shagi, went missing after leading the operation.
Abbas’ first wife, Amina Bello Ohunene, recounted the terrifying night. She said her husband cooperated fully and was assured it was a routine inquiry. Since then, the family has searched DSS facilities in Kogi and Abuja, hired a lawyer, and even secured a court order — all without results.

Despite repeated efforts, the DSS denies holding Abbas in custody. His family is now deeply concerned for his health, as he had been battling ulcer and recurring chest pains before the arrest.
