EKO HOT BLOG reports that this move aims to give more time to registered voters to retrieve their PVCs ahead of the Edo State governorship election scheduled for the following week.
The extension follows an interactive meeting held on September 11, 2024, in Benin City, with key stakeholders including political party leaders, candidates, security agencies, traditional and religious figures, civil society groups, and the media.
During the meeting, INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun addressed concerns raised by stakeholders about the electoral process and security measures for the upcoming election.
Many stakeholders urged INEC to extend the PVC collection period to enable more voters to participate in the election.
