His response came after some APC stakeholders from 29 local government areas in Akwa Ibom petitioned the President, alleging that Ekpo’s governorship ambition was creating division and working against the “Renewed Hope Agenda.” The petitioners also claimed that the Minister lacks the political relevance to influence votes for the party in 2027.

Ekpo’s office dismissed the petition as a “shallow, frivolous, and substanceless attempt by attention-seeking non-members of the APC” to undermine him. His statement emphasized that genuine party members recognize his contributions to the party’s growth and the state’s development. It highlighted his work in the Ministry of Gas, where he has focused on attracting investments and creating jobs.
The Minister’s spokesperson clarified that Ekpo actively championed President Tinubu’s campaign in 2023. He called the petitioners “mischievous political jobbers” who envy the goodwill and trust that the President has placed in him.
Ekpo’s statement concluded with an assurance that his commitment to the party’s principles and the President’s agenda is unwavering.
