Eko Hot Blog reports that After claiming the women’s 100m and 200m titles in Benin City, the Edo State capital, Favour Ofili announced that she’s ready to head to the Paris Olympics and “have fun.”

The Louisiana State University graduate spoke after winning the sprint double at the 2024 National Trials at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Sunday night.
She ran a new personal best of 11.06 to secure her first National Championships 100m title.
Finishing ahead of African Games silver medalist Olayinka Olajide (11.37) and Commonwealth Youth Games silver medalist Justina Eyakpobeyan (11.47), who took second and third place, respectively.
The 200m race was more of a stroll in the park for her, as she crossed the finish line in 23.32, ahead of Amarachi Obi (23.99) and Oforku Praise (25.32), who placed second and third, respectively.
Favour Ofili spoke to the media after qualifying to represent Nigeria in the 100m and 200m events at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
After becoming the second Nigerian woman to qualify for both sprint events in a single edition of the quadrennial sports event.

She said, “I am healthy, and when I am healthy, God can use me to do anything. Let’s go to Paris and have fun. Naija no dey carry last.
“This is my second year of doing the sprints, and I still have a lot to learn. It doesn’t happen overnight; it’s still a work in progress.
“The way I am going, it’s a good path, and I must thank my coach for being patient with me. Like you know, I am very stubborn.
“So he is very patient with me, telling me, This is your second year of being a sprinter; don’t think too much; take 100 metres at a time, and that is what I am doing.”
She has now claimed two individual titles at the championships, adding to her 200-meter win in 2019 in Kaduna.
The Nigerian men fell short of securing the 10.00 seconds Olympic standard in the 100m.
With Kanyinsola Ajayi winning the title at 10.14, ahead of Alaba Akintola (10.16) and defending champion Usheoritse Itsekiri (10.22), who finished second and third, respectively.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi successfully defended his men’s shot put title with a 21.37m effort, marking his fourth consecutive win and fifth overall, starting from his debut victory in Sapele in 2016.
