According to the ministry, the delays that led to the protests were the result of mandatory verification processes required under existing laws and regulations.
“This is to confirm that the Federal Ministry of Finance has paid N152 billion to contractors for verified contracts,” the statement said. “The payment process goes through several stages of verification in line with extant laws to protect taxpayers’ money and ensure accountability and transparency.”

The ministry acknowledged that the delay placed financial pressure on contractors but stressed that due process must be followed to prevent abuse of public funds.
It also urged contractors to adopt dialogue rather than confrontation when engaging with government officials, noting that staff of the ministry had faced intimidation and harassment during the protests.
“The ministry assures all contractors of its continued support and openness to constructive engagement,” the statement added. “We urge contractors to respect the payment process and the personnel of the Federal Ministry of Finance. All legitimate payment requests will continue to be processed in line with due process in a timely and consistent manner.”
The government said it remains committed to settling verified obligations while maintaining transparency and accountability in public spending.
