- Philip Aduda, a three-term Senator who represented the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
- Speaking at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, Aduda cited the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP as the primary reason for his exit after years of holding various elective positions on the party’s platform.
- The former lawmaker declared his immediate commitment to the “Renewed Hope” agenda, stating that his primary objective is to mobilize support and ensure a landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Senator Philip Aduda formally ended his long-standing affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Eko Hot Blog reports that Aduda, a heavyweight in FCT politics who served in the 7th, 8th, and 9th Senates, finalized his defection during a visit to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Karu Ward, Aduda noted that his departure was “with immediate effect,” pointing to the persistent leadership friction and unresolved crises within the main opposition party.
While expressing gratitude for the opportunities provided by the PDP throughout his career, he emphasized that the current political climate necessitates a realignment with the “progressive” forces currently governing the nation.

Addressing journalists after his meeting with the APC leadership, Aduda made no secret of his future ambitions.
“I decided to align, realign, and bring myself to work for the President and ensure his victory in 2027,” he stated.
Drawing on his recent success in the FCT Area Council elections, , where he collaborated with others to secure five out of six seats, Aduda expressed confidence that his entry into the APC would result in a “six over six” sweep for the ruling party in future local contests and a decisive win for the presidency.
Receiving the former Senator, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda described the defection as a testament to the growing appeal of the “Renewed Hope” agenda.
He noted that millions of Nigerians are increasingly viewing the APC as the only viable platform for progressive change.
Yilwatda added that the bold reforms being implemented by the current administration have inspired leaders like Aduda to set aside partisan differences in favor of national development.
This high-profile defection is seen by political analysts as a major blow to the PDP’s influence in the nation’s capital, where Aduda has long maintained a formidable grassroots structure.
As the APC continues to consolidate its ranks ahead of the 2027 election cycle, the addition of a veteran lawmaker of Aduda’s caliber signals an aggressive strategy by the ruling party to dominate the FCT and solidify its national majority.
