An Abuja-based political advocacy group has cautioned against deliberate efforts to create division between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the warning came from the Northern Vanguard in a statement released on Thursday and signed by its president, Edward Gulak.

The group alleged that certain political actors are attempting to undermine the Tinubu-Shettima administration by fabricating discord between the two leaders.
Gulak described these attempts as both “mischievous and unpatriotic,” stressing that the relationship between the President and his Vice remains strong, cooperative, and focused on governance.
“We are aware that some political merchants, driven by envy and personal bitterness, are hoping to manufacture a rift between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in order to destabilise this administration ahead of 2027,” Gulak alleged.

Gulak further stated that those behind the alleged plot are frustrated by the unity and stability within the current presidency, unlike in past administrations where tension often existed between the president and vice president.
He noted that the partnership between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima reflects a rare level of loyalty and a shared commitment to national goals.
The Northern Vanguard also praised Senator Shettima for proving himself a worthy choice as running mate in the 2023 election, highlighting his decision to place national interest above personal ambition and his dedication to effective governance.
“Shettima is not just a former governor with experience; he is an intellectual force, a patriot, and one of the few leaders who fully understands the complexities of Nigeria’s security, economy, and regional dynamics,” the statement added.
The group dismissed what it described as mere “palace gossip” surrounding the presidency, emphasizing that Nigerians are more interested in effective governance than in baseless rumours of internal conflict.
It warned that any effort to sow discord between the president and vice president would not only fail but also threaten the country’s stability.
“Nigerians are not interested in conspiracy theories or factional drama. They want leadership that works, that listens, and that delivers. Any attempt to disrupt the working relationship between Tinubu and Shettima is a direct attempt to destabilise the country,” the statement read.
The Northern Vanguard also urged the media to act responsibly, calling on journalists and commentators to refrain from amplifying what it described as “agenda-driven speculations.”
As the country moves closer to the next election cycle, the group appealed to political actors to prioritize national unity and development over attempts to gain political advantage by creating division.
“This administration needs focus, not friction,” Gulak concluded. “Those who seek to sow discord must remember that history will judge them harshly.”
