The Nigeria Police Force has arrested one of its officers, ASP Nuhu Usman, following the fatal shooting of a suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun, Delta State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred on Sunday after officers attached to the Effurun Area Command responded to a report from the Benin Motor Park along the Warri–Sapele Expressway.

According to police accounts, the suspect had been apprehended by members of a transport union while attempting to send a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
While officers were taking the suspect into custody, ASP Usman, who led the team, allegedly discharged his firearm in breach of operational guidelines, resulting in the suspect’s death.
In response, the police authorities ordered the immediate transfer of the officer and members of his team to Force Headquarters in Abuja. They are to face the Force Disciplinary Committee for further investigation, possible sanctions, and prosecution.

The Inspector-General of Police extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured that justice would be pursued in line with the law.
The police also appealed to the public to remain calm as disciplinary and legal processes continue.
