The move seeks to reconstitute the Commission’s board in line with existing legal provisions.
Among the nominees is Dr Salamatu Hussaina Suleiman, who has been proposed as board chairman, while Dr Anthony Ojukwu (SAN) is nominated to serve as Executive Secretary.
The list also features 13 other individuals drawn from diverse professional backgrounds, including the media and legal sectors. Notable nominees include Ayo Adewuyi of the Nigerian Television Authority, Maupe Ogun of Channels Television, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chinonye Obiaku.
Tinubu stated that the nominations were made in accordance with Section 2(3) of the National Human Rights Commission (Establishment) Act, 2010, which empowers the President to constitute the board subject to Senate approval.

He noted that reconstituting the board would enhance the Commission’s institutional capacity and enable it to more effectively carry out its mandate of promoting and safeguarding human rights across Nigeria.
Following the presentation, the Senate referred the nominations to its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters for screening, with a directive to report back within two weeks.
If approved, the new board is expected to strengthen the Commission’s oversight role at a time when concerns over accountability and human rights protection remain prominent in the country.
