A former spokesperson of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Seye Oladejo, has cautioned political actors against exploiting insecurity and terrorism for electoral advantage as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued on Monday, Oladejo expressed concern over the recent resurgence of insecurity and terrorist activities in parts of the country, warning that national security challenges should not be turned into political tools.

According to him, Nigeria has witnessed periods in the past where security concerns appeared to intensify as election seasons approached, with some interests allegedly seeking to benefit from public fear and uncertainty.
While acknowledging the seriousness of the country’s security challenges, Oladejo argued that recent incidents should not be used to create the impression that Nigeria is experiencing a complete breakdown of law and order.
He maintained that some individuals and groups seem more interested in amplifying negative developments than supporting efforts aimed at tackling the threats facing the country.
Oladejo stressed that insecurity affects all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, religion or region, urging leaders across party lines to place national interest above partisan considerations.

“The blood of innocent Nigerians does not carry party membership cards,” he stated.
The APC chieftain called for stronger collaboration among political leaders, security agencies and citizens in addressing terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security threats, rather than turning national tragedies into instruments of political mobilisation.
He also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and resist narratives designed to spread fear, panic and pessimism, insisting that lasting solutions can only emerge through collective action and national unity.
According to Oladejo, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited longstanding security challenges and has continued to implement measures aimed at strengthening military operations, improving intelligence gathering and dismantling criminal networks across the country.
Although he acknowledged that security concerns remain, he argued that the efforts and achievements of security agencies should not be ignored.
Oladejo further warned against what he described as the “politics of fear,” alleging that some political actors appear more focused on the electoral implications of insecurity than on finding practical solutions to the problem.
As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, he called on Nigerians to reject divisive rhetoric and support initiatives that promote peace, stability and national cohesion.
He emphasised that the fight against terrorism and violent crime must remain a collective responsibility, noting that a secure Nigeria serves the interests of all citizens, irrespective of political beliefs.
“Nigeria’s challenges are real, but so too is the resilience of its people. Terrorism must never be allowed to dictate the nation’s future, and political actors must never be permitted to exploit insecurity for pecuniary or electoral gain,” he said.
