Motorists and commuters in Epe are beginning to experience temporary changes in traffic movement following the commencement of junction improvement works at the busy Ita-Marun axis, a development widely seen as a major step toward solving long-standing congestion challenges in the community.
The project, driven by the Lagos State Government, is part of broader efforts to modernize road infrastructure and improve vehicular movement across key routes within Epe.

Over time, the Ita-Marun junction has become a critical pressure point, often characterized by heavy traffic, delays, and safety concerns, especially during peak hours.
According to the lawmaker representing Epe Constituency I, Abiodun Tobun, the decision to implement a comprehensive junction improvement plan instead of installing traffic lights reflects a more sustainable and long-term approach to traffic management in the area.
With construction now in full swing, traffic diversions have been introduced to allow for smooth execution of the project.
Vehicles from Iraye-Oke are redirected to make a U-turn near the Fire Service station, while those coming from Odomola towards Odo-Obara High School Road are required to turn at Ita-Opo.
Plans are also underway to open an additional access route near T-Tab Filling Station to further ease movement.
While these temporary changes may pose short-term inconveniences, many residents believe the long-term benefits will far outweigh the current disruptions.
Beyond easing congestion, the junction upgrade is expected to significantly improve road safety by creating a more structured and coordinated traffic system.
The redesign will help reduce the frequent gridlocks and confusion that often lead to accidents at the intersection.
For businesses and commercial activities in Epe, the impact could also be substantial.
Smoother traffic flow means easier movement of goods and services, reduced travel time, and improved accessibility for customers.
This, in turn, is likely to boost local economic activities and enhance the overall attractiveness of Epe as a growing urban hub.
Residents have also expressed optimism that the project will complement ongoing development efforts in the area, especially as Epe continues to witness increased population growth and urban expansion.
Traffic officials have been deployed to manage the situation and guide motorists through the new routes.
Road users are encouraged to remain patient, comply with traffic regulations, and cooperate with authorities to ensure safety during the construction period.
When completed, the Ita-Marun junction improvement is expected to stand as a lasting solution to one of Epe’s most challenging traffic points—delivering not just convenience, but a safer, more efficient, and better-connected community.
