Kidnapped Benue Students Police

The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will not be providing online updates regarding the efforts to secure the release of 20 kidnapped student doctors for security reasons.

According to the Force Headquarters Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun will be visiting the Benue State Command today, Monday, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safe return of the students.

Adejobi emphasized that the police remain fully committed to rescuing the 19 student doctors and one medical doctor who were kidnapped in the Oturkpo area of Benue State.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that he noted that the nature of the rescue operation, given the high number of hostages, requires a tactical approach, and publicizing the details could jeopardize the operation.

In a statement released on Sunday, Adejobi appealed to the public to be patient and supportive of the police’s efforts, stressing that while the police have issued an official statement on the matter, further updates and strategies will not be shared online.

“The police have made a press statement on the matter. I don’t think we should be discussing or updating the public on our efforts and strategies online. That’s not necessary,” Adejobi stated.

“The aim is to rescue them unhurt. And one thing we need to know is that the rescue operation of people with that number must be tactical for many reasons.

“We update those who are in contact with us, and those involved in the rescue operation. Everyone is concerned about it, reason more men and assets have been deployed to Benue.
