Speaking at the event, Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the need for everyone to take TB seriously and take action against it.
“TB is a preventable and treatable disease, yet many people are still affected because they do not seek treatment early.
We need leaders like Princess Surah to raise awareness and educate their communities,” she said.
Princess Surah Animashaun thanked the First Lady for the honor and promised to work hard in her new role.
“This recognition is not just for me but for the entire Epe community. I will make sure we spread the message that TB can be prevented and treated.
I will work closely with the state government and other partners to ensure everyone has access to healthcare,” she said.
Other female Chairmen from the Conference 57 group were also decorated as TB Champions in their local areas. Their wives were asked to lead grassroots campaigns to spread awareness about TB prevention and treatment.
Princess Surah stated that she would focus on implementing policies and gathering resources to support TB control programs. “We need to join hands to fight against TB, not only in Epe but across Lagos State,” she added.
To support their campaigns, the First Lady presented the TB Champions with banners and other materials to raise public awareness about free TB testing and treatment.
“This is a big step towards eliminating TB in Lagos State. We are committed to making sure that every resident knows about the disease and how to get help,” Princess Surah affirmed.
