The University’s Management team, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Christopher Odetunde, warmly received Mrs. Atekoja and her team.
During the meeting, they discussed the University’s continuous efforts to preserve and promote Sungbo-Eredo, considered one of the most significant cultural heritage sites in West Africa.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Odetunde said, “Augustine University is deeply committed to preserving the rich cultural heritage of Sungbo-Eredo.
Our collaboration with the Ministry will ensure that this ancient monument remains a source of pride and education for all.”
After the meeting, Mrs. Atekoja and her team embarked on an in-depth tour of the Sungbo-Eredo site within Augustine University’s grounds.
Spanning over 2 kilometers, this section is regarded as the best-preserved and safest part of the monument, which stretches over 160 kilometers in total.
The LiDAR survey data presented at the August workshop played a key role in identifying and documenting these sections.
Expressing her admiration for the University’s dedication, Mrs. Atekoja stated, “The commitment shown by Augustine University in preserving Sungbo-Eredo is remarkable.
They have not only safeguarded this historical site but have also contributed significantly to research and awareness about its importance.”
