The Governing Council of Lagos State University has paid a courtesy and congratulatory visit to the Alara of Ilara following his appointment by the Governor of Lagos State as the 6th Chancellor of the institution.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the visit comes shortly after an earlier engagement by the university’s management team, further underscoring the institution’s respect and support for the royal father’s new role.

The delegation was led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Babatunde Ogala, and included the Vice-Chancellor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, alongside other principal officers and council members such as Prof. Taiwo Oseni (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics), Prof. Oluwatoyin Eniola (Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration), Prof. Shafideen Amuwo (Council Member), Alhaji Adisa Ebiti (FCA), Mr. Oluwaseyi Badmus, Prof. Yetunde Kuyinu, Mrs. Akanbi, Mrs. Atolagbe, Prof. Oluwafemi Lawal, Prof. M.O.B. Muhammad, Prof. Animashaun, Mr. Wale Anthony, and Mr. Olakunle Lawal. Also present were the Bursar, Mr. Saheed Olayinka Babatunde, and the Registrar/Secretary to Council, Mr. Emmanuel Abiodun.
Speaking during the visit, the Pro-Chancellor, Babatunde Ogala, described Ilara Kingdom as an ancient and highly respected domain, while congratulating the monarch on his historic appointment.
“Kabiyesi’s emergence as Chancellor is a testament to his leadership qualities, intellect, and wide network of goodwill,” he said.
“We are confident that his fatherly role will provide the needed direction for the university’s continued growth.”
He further noted that the visit was to formally congratulate the royal father and also present the vision and blueprint of the Governing Council for the advancement of the institution.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, appreciated the monarch’s support for education and described the university as a leading institution in West Africa.
She highlighted LASU’s achievements, including its stable academic calendar, noting that the institution has maintained consistency without disruption from industrial actions in recent years.
Responding, the Alara of Ilara expressed deep gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State for finding him worthy of the prestigious appointment, describing it as a historic honour not just for Ilara Kingdom but for traditional institutions across the state. “This appointment is not just for me, it is for my people,” he said.
He commended the university’s leadership for their strides in academic excellence, particularly in the area of digital innovation and global partnerships.
“I am impressed with the level of development in LASU, especially in ICT and its collaborations with institutions in Europe and America,” he noted.
The monarch also praised the Vice-Chancellor for her leadership, describing her as a “tireless mother” to over 7,000 students, while assuring the council of his readiness to support the institution’s vision.
“I will play my role to ensure LASU continues to grow in excellence. Together, we will achieve greater heights,” he added.
He further assured that satellite campuses across the state, including the Epe campus, would receive necessary attention and support during his tenure.
The visit marks a significant moment in the history of both LASU and Epe Division, as stakeholders expressed optimism that the monarch’s reign as Chancellor will usher in a new era of progress and institutional advancement.
