Nigeria’s political parties have concluded their presidential primaries ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election, producing candidates who will fly their respective party flags in the race for the country’s highest office.
The emergence of the candidates followed weeks of consultations, primary elections and consensus arrangements across various political platforms.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that while some parties concluded their exercises without major disputes, others have continued to grapple with internal disagreements and factional divisions over the nomination process.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had set May 30 as the deadline for political parties to conduct primaries and resolve issues arising from candidate nominations.
Below is the list of presidential candidates and their political parties ahead of the 2027 election:
Bola Tinubu – All Progressives Congress (APC)
Sandy Onor – Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Goodluck Jonathan – Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Atiku Abubakar – David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)
Dumebi Kachikwu – African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction
Donald Duke – Peoples Redemption Party (PRP)
Omoyele Sowore – African Action Congress (AAC)
Adewole Adebayo – Social Democratic Party (SDP)
Abimbola Akeem Atanda – Shehu Gabam-led Social Democratic Party (SDP) faction
Peter Obi – Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)
Seyi Makinde – Allied Peoples Movement (APM)
Aliyu Bin Abbas – Action Democratic Party (ADP)
Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim – Accord Party
Dr Chibuzo Okereke – Labour Party

With the primaries completed, political parties are expected to shift attention to coalition talks, nationwide consultations and campaign preparations ahead of the 2027 general election.
Political analysts also anticipate legal challenges in some parties where aggrieved aspirants have questioned the conduct and outcome of the primary elections.
