EKO HOT BLOG reports that Makinde spoke on Monday while addressing PDP stakeholders from the state’s 33 Local Government Areas at the Local Government House Secretariat in Ibadan. His clarification
follows his attendance at a meeting in Kano hosted by the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, which also included former Anambra Governor Peter Obi and former Bayelsa Governor Seriake Dickson.
“Those saying PDP will die are mistaken. What is certain is that PDP will be on the ballot in 2027, and we will produce candidates for all elective positions from the state to the national level. We will remain in PDP and win,” Makinde said.
He urged party leaders to resolve internal differences and close ranks ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing the need for flexibility to maintain unity. “They want to take Oyo State at all costs, but it is our responsibility to ensure we bend our rules where necessary to accommodate one another,” he added.
The governor directed party leaders across zones to hold meetings aimed at fostering cohesion and announced automatic tickets for National Assembly members and first-term members of the Oyo State House of Assembly. Returning lawmakers’ candidacies, he explained, would be considered based on agreements, including rotational arrangements.
Makinde described the upcoming elections as critical for the future of democracy. “This battle is not just about 2027; it is about the future of democracy and future generations. Nothing good comes easy. Success is achieved through struggle. Can we fight through this? Yes. Can we win? Absolutely,” he said.

He reaffirmed that all aspirants seeking elective positions would contest under the PDP and emphasized that a consensus-based approach to candidate selection, anchored in unity and internal cohesion, remains central to maintaining the party’s political dominance in Oyo State.
