Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has announced a ₦50,000 payment for all workers in Lagos State for the month of May, with a broader wage review to follow.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor was represented by his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, at the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, where he arrived at about 11 a.m. to cheers from workers in attendance.

According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the payment is part of immediate measures to support workers, while plans are underway for a comprehensive salary review.
The gesture reflects the government’s recognition of workers’ contributions to the state’s growth and development.

He added that the forthcoming review would address broader concerns around wages and cost of living, assuring workers that their welfare remains a priority for the administration.
The announcement was received with cheers from workers at the rally, as the state government reiterated its commitment to improving working conditions and sustaining dialogue with labour unions.
