Nigerian-Born Travel Blogger Arrested, Detained In Greece For ‘Wearing Inappropriate Clothes’
A Nigerian-born travel blogger based in London says she was arrested and detained at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece for wearing clothes the authorities there said are inappropriate.
London-based travel blogger, Adebola Sowemimo, says she was also pushed out of a museum because she was wearing ‘inappropriate clothing’ before she was screamed at and arrested.
Sowemimo, who grew up near Swindon, said a ‘false testament’ was made against her alleging that she had lifted her skirt and flashed her body, a claim she insists was not true.
In a series of tweets on Saturday, August 3, she said: “I’ve just been arrested by Greek Police based on a false accusation. The Greek police are keeping me in custody. This is racism at its finest.
“I went to the Acropolis in Athens today (Friday, August 2) and I was pushed out of the museum because they said I was wearing inappropriate clothing.”
“I was screamed at and pushed out of the building while being screamed at in Greek.
“Police were called and a false testament was made against me that I was lifting my skirt and flashing my body to the public. This is a LIE.”
She then claimed she had been arrested with no translator, but was lucky her boyfriend was there to translate for her.
