Kanu made this assertion during a visit from the President-General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA), Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja, where he is being held.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that following the visit, Ezenekwe issued a statement highlighting Kanu’s remarks, particularly his concerns about the absence of strong Igbo leadership and the need for continued advocacy for the region’s interests.
Despite his prolonged detention, Ezenekwe noted that Kanu appeared in good health and was optimistic about his legal battle.
“Throughout our conversation, he maintained a calm and composed demeanor, displaying remarkable resilience despite his situation. He remains focused on his call for a referendum, insisting it is a vital step toward self-determination,” Ezenekwe stated.
Kanu also expressed confidence in his legal team, affirming that he is following his prescribed medical treatment and remains hopeful about the outcome of his case.
Beyond his personal legal struggle, Kanu voiced concerns over what he described as a leadership vacuum within the Igbo community.
“He lamented the absence of strong, coordinated leadership to champion the interests of the Igbo people, particularly at a time when unity and strategic advocacy are most needed,” Ezenekwe added.
Ezenekwe also used the opportunity to appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to facilitate Kanu’s release as a demonstration of his commitment to justice and national unity.
“I make a heartfelt appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I urge him to reflect on his own history of fighting for justice and take decisive steps to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu,” he stated.
